The Hornets Finally Hit the Reset Button, Let’s Hope It’s The Right One. A Season Preview!

The Charlotte Hornets underwent a change in ownership in the summer of 2023. New owners, Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, were patient to start and allowed themselves to develop a thorough understanding of the franchise before making any changes. After a very active trade deadline last season, the ownership duo made the decision to bring in new management.

The Hornets brought in young-mind, Jeff Peterson, to be the General Manager. Peterson has held the title of Assistant GM for both the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets. Additionally, the team hired former Celtics assistant coach and multiple-time world champion, Charles Lee, as the new Head Coach. Both men represent young, fresh minds that allow for a revamped approach to the franchise operations.

Heading into the season, the Charlotte Hornets are equipped with the most talented and deepest roster that they have had in years. Our starting five should be able to compete with the majority of teams in the league. And, our bench depth has taken a significant leap from previous years after a handful of splendid deadline deals by the management team last season.

The Hornets will be led by young, budding stars Lamelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Additionally, these stars will be supplemented by high-impact, high-energy players in Miles Bridges, Mark Williams, and Josh Green. Off the bench, we will see the features of Tre Mann, Grant Williams, and Nick Richards.

The Charlotte Hornets aren’t championship contenders, but that’s not what fans are looking for. This roster–when healthy–is good enough to solidify themselves as a playoff team this season, and that should be the expectation around the organization. Nothing less.

Our organization still has a lot of work to do to become the premier franchise in the NBA. We’ve finally hit the much needed reset button, have some exciting young talent, and seem to be entering a new era. The team needs to prove to its fans that it is serious about winning, and Jeff Peterson and Charles Lee need to prove that they can get the most out of this team by doing something that our franchise hasn’t done in multiple decades: win a playoff series.
