Is Charlotte FC Finding Form at the Perfect Time?

Throughout the 2024 MLS campaign, Charlotte FC have been renowned for their defensive presence and record. On the other hand, however, our ability to score goals had fallen behind the rest of the league. In some of the final games of the regular season, however, it appears that Charlotte FC may be starting to shift this fortune and put it all together.

The months of August and early September were rough for Charlotte FC. After a highly disappointing Leagues Cup campaign, the squad struggled in their return to MLS play, picking up one draw and three losses in their first four games back. Fans were starting to worry about the squad adjustments in the transfer window, the team chemistry, managerial decisions, and more, but–hopefully–all for not. The team has since turned it around, and in the last four games has put together two four-goal-showings, won three games, and earned a draw away at number-one-ranked Inter Miami.

Our attack is beginning to flow as DP’s Karol Swiderski and Pep Biel begin to settle back into the Charlotte FC squad. In fact, in the first fifteen games of the season, Charlotte FC averaged 0.94 goals per game. Now, in the last 17? The squad is averaging 1.65 goals per game, a significant jump. It feels as though our attacking depth has taken a significant stride forward as well, with Patrick Agyemang continuing to make a massive impact off the bench.

As we see with teams in every tournament and playoff, it’s all about finding your stride at the right time. Charlotte FC definitely have work to do, and we have to ensure that we maintain our defensive resilience, but if we can keep this level of momentum heading into the playoffs, I’m not sure anyone will be chomping at the bit to face our squad.
