‘Giving Thanks for Football: The Carolina Panthers near Victory’

Writer's picture: Corey RussellCorey Russell

Last week, the Carolina Panthers came within an inch of pulling off the unthinkable, nearly toppling the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs in a thrilling showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats. Despite falling short, the Panther's near victory served as a powerful reminder of the unpredictable magic that makes the NFL so exciting. On this Thanksgiving, we should be thankful for moments like these — when underdogs rise to the occasion, defying the odds and showing us the heart and resilience that define great football. While victory may have eluded them, Carolina proved they can hang with the league's best, giving fans hope for the future and a reason to celebrate the game we all love.

After the initial shock of the opening kickoff return, which nearly turned into a touchdown, my confidence was somewhat restored as I watched Bryce Young guide his offense down the field. Although the drive ended in a field goal, it was exciting to see the ball moving in the right direction. It was clear that progress had been made, and with another opportunity, it seemed like Kansas City would have been on the losing end.

Panthers QB
Bryce Young vs Chiefs

This team went into halftime with a score of 20-9 and what this offense was able to do after halftime by coming back to tie up the game and almost send it into overtime, was incredible. Young absolutely shined with 21/35 with 263 yards, a TD and no interceptions against the Chiefs defense.

Notable Recaps:

  • David Moore (83) turned out to be BY’s go to guy in last Sunday's matchup. With 10 targets Moore finished with 81 yards and a touchdown.

  • Adam Thielen returned to us, bringing in 57 yards with three catches.

  • Chuba Hubbard is just shy of 1,000 yards for the season

  • Carolina’s defense sacked Patrick Mahomes 5 times, which has been the most by an opposing defense against the Chiefs this season!

  • Eddy Pineiro went four-for-four on field goals.

So, as we sit around the table this year for Thanksgiving, we as Panthers fans do have a few things to be thankful for when it comes to this team. Significant progress has been made and shown. The growth in our players, both individually and as a team, has been remarkable, and it's clear that hard work is paying off. Despite the challenges faced, the team's resilience suggests that the outcome of this season could be even better than we imagined.
