Charlotte FC has announced the signing of USMNT international center-back, Tim Ream, from Fulham on a free transfer. Tim Ream will sign a contract with the club running through 2026 with an option for a further year. Ream will be donning the number 3 which was previously worn by Jere Uronen and Adam Armour. Ream joins the Crown after a successful nine-year career at Fulham that saw him play 312 games for the club. Ream has also earned 61 international caps for the USMNT, including four caps at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Many fans might question the signing of Tim Ream due to the existing center-back duo of Andrew Privett and Adilson Malanda. However, this signing is pivotal for the continued development of our young center-back duo. There have been a few moments this season where the duo’s lack of experience has led to goals that could have been avoided. The signing of Tim Ream is a great move by the front office. His experience in the Premier League will help the development schedule of both Adilson Malanda and Andrew Privett.
Tim Ream's arrival in the 704 will bring valuable experience and defensive stability to the Crowns backline, which has already registered 9 clean sheets during the MLS season. As a left footed center back, Ream will provide balance to the backline, offering precise distribution from the back and helping to kick start attacks. Ream's leadership–on and off the pitch–will also help the cohesion and organization of the team for years to come under Dean Smith. Ream will be eligible to start against the NY Red Bulls on August 24, at Bank of America Stadium.
